Medical Care

Here at AUCB we want to support you as much as possible during your time as a student. We strongly encourage you to register with a local doctor as soon as you start your studies at AUCB to make sure that you can see a doctor quickly if you fall ill or need routine medical care during the course of your studies.

What medical care is available at AUCB?
AUCB’s Student Services work in partnership with the local Village Surgery to provide an on-campus medical surgery each week. Appointments are available during a Monday lunchtime, and you can make an appointment by contacting Student Services on 01202 363703. You will need to register with the surgery at least 24 hours before your appointment.

How do I register with a local Doctor?
You can register with the local Village surgery at Student Services, who can offer you guidance in completing the registration forms. Alternatively, you can register at any other medical practice by going along with your medical card and filling in a Family Doctor Registration form (GMS1) which will be available at the surgery. To find the nearest or most convenient surgery for you, click on the NHS choices web page as follows and enter your postcode.

How do I find a local NHS dentist?
Many dentists only accept private paying patients and as dentistry fees can be expensive you may prefer to find an NHS dentist if at all possible. To find the nearest NHS dentist to you please take a look at the NHS choices webpage and enter your postcode.

Am I eligible for help with Health Costs? (Prescription charges, dentistry, glasses etc.)
If you are in receipt of certain benefits, you will automatically be exempt from certain health costs (i.e. income support, family credit, disability living allowance).

If you are a full-time student, you may be entitled to help with health costs, provided you have filled out the appropriate (HC1) form. Refunds for payments already made can be obtained through producing receipts and filling in a (HC5) form.

All forms mentioned above are available from Student Services.
