Counselling

During your time here at AUCB you will encounter opportunities for development, artistically, academically and socially. Sometimes however, you may experience personal problems for which you need help and support beyond that offered by tutors, friends or family.

Counselling can help if you are experiencing such problems, whether long term or resulting from a temporary crisis and is an excellent tool for your own personal development. We have a team of professionally qualified male and female counsellors, coordinated by the Senior Counselling Officer Andrew Froggett. Students accessing the service are offered various levels of support ranging from regular weekly sessions, occasional support or just a “one off” consultation.

In most cases, you can expect to be seen for a session within two days of making initial contact with the service. If the situation is urgent and you are very emotionally distressed, we also have a crisis support service and you will be seen by one of our counsellors almost immediately.

Many students who use the service come for support and guidance in times of crisis and find that a one-off meeting or some occasional support can be sufficient. Others require more in-depth counselling, in which case, they will be assessed and placed with one of our counsellors. Sometimes we may recommend a referral to an external agency if your issues are particularly specialist or require a specific model of counselling.

Regular counselling sessions are available during day times and evenings. To make an appointment, or to learn more about the service, you can contact the Counselling Service by emailing: counselling@aucb.ac.uk
