DRACULA SET TO STORM THE LIGHTHOUSE
23rd February 2010
Students from the School of Performance at the University College are working together to stage a spectacular production of Bram Stoker’s compelling gothic horror story, Dracula.
Directed by actress and Senior Lecturer Ellie Nixon, this highly visual, provocative production follows Jonathan Harker as he journeys to Transylvania to meet the mysterious Count Dracula, but finds himself trapped in a dark and terrifying world. The show, at the Lighthouse on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th March, delves into themes of identity, sanity, fear, sensuality and desire.
Ellie explains “The current fascination for vampire stories
is intriguing and parallels the enormous appetite that existed in
the late nineteenth century for crime, ghost and horror stories.
Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ continues to haunt our imagination because
of the many unthinkable themes it dared to confront at the time.
Its overarching unease about the transgression of the boundaries
between the rational and the irrational, the known or unknown, are
exciting themes to explore in theatre.”
This will be the final performance from third year BA (Hons) Acting students before they graduate and it will showcase the skills they have learnt during their AUCB training. ‘Dracula’ combines the talents of students from BA (Hons) Costume with Performance Design, BA (Hons) Illustration, BA (Hons) Film, BA (Hons) Animation, BA (Hons) Photography and FDA Makeup for Media and Performance.
‘Dracula’ is on at the Lighthouse, Kingland Rd, Poole, on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th March, at 7.30pm, (Sat matinee at 2.30pm).
