Accommodation

As Bournemouth and Poole are major tourist towns there is a wide range of accommodation available and it is much cheaper than other parts of the country such as London.

There are three types of accommodation available for students:

· Halls of Residence on campus and in Bournemouth town centre (from £98 - £120 per week, including bills)

· Privately rented self-catering accommodation - houses or flats shared with other students or with the landlord, or living on your own in a studio flat (from £70 - £90 per week, excluding bills such as water rates, electricity and gas)

· Living with a host family in a private home, often with breakfast and evening meal provided (from £90 - £105 per week, including bills)

Students who have accepted a place on a course will get an email at the end of March to let them know what to do about finding accommodation. This information is produced in the form of an ‘Accommodation Pack’ which can be downloaded from our main Student Information section (usually at the beginning of April).

Students wishing to live in the halls of residence can apply for a place using the form available in the Accommodation Pack. (This needs to be sent back to the Accommodation Office before the deadline which is usually the end of May). Priority is given to students with the greatest need so international students living overseas are usually successful in obtaining a place.

Those who prefer not to live in halls of residence can get help with finding the right place at:

· One of our Accommodation Days (held in July or August). These events make it easy to find self-catering accommodation, particularly houses or flats to share with other students and are great for students who are able to travel here. Details can be found on the main website under the heading Accommodation Days on What’s on Offer page and in the Accommodation Pack.

Please note it is essential to register for one of these days if you are going to come along.

· Alternatively, the aucbstudentpad website has details of all types of accommodation and there is a message board where students advertise rooms that are available or you can post a message yourself to find other housemates. (This is a good option if students are unable to attend an Accommodation Day).

More about the Halls of Residence

The on campus halls (East and West House) consist of 100 study bedrooms with their own toilet, shower and wash hand basin facilities. The kitchens are shared with six other students and there are centralised laundry facilities.

Bourne Chambers (our town centre halls), has 4 self-contained flatlets and 24 study bedrooms with their own toilets and showers facilities. There are communal kitchens and lounge facilities on each floor.'

All halls of residence have broadband internet connections.

There are also plans for new halls of residence in the centre of Bournemouth for 2012 entry, details will be listed on our website in due course.

A bedding pack (duvet, pillow, sheet and pillowcase) can be provided if requested in advance, but students will need to provide extra bedding, towels and cooking items themselves. If students want to buy essential items such as this before arrival they can contact a private company called All-Unied to organise this.
