Jewellery 1 - Silversmithing and Wax Carving Workshop

10 Tuesday evenings, 6-9pm

Spring term:

10th Jan – 20th Mar 2012 (half term 14th Feb)

Summer term:

17th Apr – 26th Jun (half term 5th Jun)

 

Working with both copper and silver, this course, which is ideal for beginners, will enable you to design and create your own unique piece of jewellery in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

 

To start with you will be guided through the basic principles of jewellery making, including metal piercing and soldering metal. The first piece you will make will be a ring, then their will be chance to use carving wax for the ‘lost wax casting’ process.

 

After the introduction to these skills, the second half of the course provides the time to work on your own collection of jewellery, under the supervision of an experienced tutor and technician.

 

Through an informative induction you will be provided with all the relevant health and safety information needed regarding good workshop practice.

 

What you will need to bring:

A set of 6 wax carving tools and carving wax (see appendix for

suppliers). All other equipment is provided and details will be

given as to where to purchase silver. (As a guide, the cost of a

ring is approx. £6-8 depending on the quantity of silver

required). You should wear old clothes and closed toe, flat

shoes.
