The course will begin with a study of the basics of millinery. With
inspiration drawn from history, you will be encouraged to develop your own style. You will learn about the different materials and stitches used in millinery and their use in different styles of hat. Through tutor-led demonstrations, you will be able to use these techniques for your own creations to take away and wear. The sewing on this course will be done by hand.
You can join this course for one term or for the full year, as new projects will be set each term. You do not have to complete the autumn or spring term prior to any subsequent course.

This versatile material will also be used to block a separate hat crown and brim before constructing and trimming your hat. You will also have the opportunity to block a parasisal straw hat during the course.
Summer Term - CONSTRUCTED HATS
The summer term course will concentrate on CONSTRUCTED HATS. These hats or fascinators will be constructed using flat buckram pattern pieces before being shaped by hand. They will then be covered and decorated with materials and trims of your choice.
