If you are interested in learning basic sewing skills and techniques and wish to gain confidence in using a sewing machine then this course is a ‘must’. Through tutor led demonstrations, you will be introduced to the range of construction methods necessary to produce your own garment, in this case, an ‘A’ line skirt and how it will be adapted to a pattern.
With guidance from your tutor, you will develop an awareness of the
processes involved in producing various types of seams and stitch
lengths. You will learn sewing techniques and become aware of
fabric and fabric terminology, grain lines, bias and selfidges.
The course will help you understand pattern instruction and
terminology and how to lay out pattern pieces ‘lay planning’ when
cutting out fabric and interfaces. Pattern cutting techniques will
also be demonstrated for manipulation of darts.
Step-by-step we will show you how to model and create a bodice on a
mannequin, make darts, shape an armhole, neckline and sideseams and
achieve the correct fit without doing a flat pattern. You will then
be shown how to adapt it to a pattern. Through tutor led
demonstrations you will learn how to set in a sleeve after sewing a
bodice together.
This course will equip you with a wide range of skills for working
on garments using industrial sewing machines and specialist
equipment.
When you leave the course, you will feel confident in progressing
with your personal sewing projects.
Calico and pattern paper for making a practice garment, known as a
