BA (Hons) Textiles (Top Up)
Design: Stephanie Stuart - 'Dug Up'
COURSE OVERVIEW
This BA top up course builds on your previous study, inspiring and encouraging you to develop into an original textile practitioner, leading rather than responding to industry trends.
The course is designed to help you arrive at innovative solutions in the making and designing of contemporary textiles. You’ll discover more about textiles practice in fashion, interiors and design crafts and build your practical, theoretical and intellectual abilities.
The BA Top Up gives you the chance to explore your own areas of creative interest more fully and prepare you for a career in the textile industry.
We do not currently anticipate being able to accept direct entrants to this course in 2012/13.
STANDARD ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Students enrolling onto a top up course need 120 credits at Level 5 in a relevant area of study. Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS score in the range of 6.0 to 7.0, or a TOEFL score of 650 (paper based score) 250 (computer based score) or other equivalent.
Applicants to the final year of a BA (Hons) qualification may need Bridging Studies to prepare for year 3.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR
We look for enthusiasm and creativity, together with a willingness to learn and to engage with others. You need to show commitment to the subject through sketchbooks, sampling and research. Your portfolio should show examples of drawing and sketchbooks that demonstrate good textiles skills: drawing, colour, surface print, stitch embellishment, dyeing and construction processes as well as demonstrating creative ability.
INTERVIEWS AND PORTFOLIOS
You will be expected to show a commitment to and enthusiasm for
this subject. Students applying for the course will normally have
completed a Foundation Degree or HND, so will have a professional
portfolio of work.
COURSE STRUCTURE
The structure of the year is made up of 4 units that develop your potential to become an intellectually motivated, and creative designer or maker.
You will be encouraged to manage your own learning and practice independently. Final Major Projects focus upon your main areas of interest. We have established industry links and regular guest speakers to help you get under the skin of contemporary issues and business. Over the year you’ll acquire an increasing vocational understanding of textiles industries in the broadest creative sense.
