Rebecca Pride BA (Hons), Hdip (Slade) PGCE: Course
Leader A scenographer (formerly known as Rebecca
Janaway), with over 20 years of experience designing both set and
costumes for major theatres Nationally and Internationally.
Rebecca’s research interests include pedagogical study into methods
for teaching set and costume design and “designer thinking”.
Rebecca is working to produce a figure sourcebook that assists the
costume designer to understand the costumed body.

Mandy Barrington BA (Hons), PGCE: Senior
Lecturer Textile artist, costume maker and
international ambassador for the AUCB. Mandy is currently
researching the use of digital equipment for textile enhancement,
including the exploration of laser cutting. Her other research into
various textile techniques and their use within theatrical
performance has supported course development into this area.

Graham Cottenden MA, Cert Ed, SEDA: Senior
Lecturer Historian, tailor, placement and
international exchange tutor. Graham is currently researching 18th
to 20th Century tailoring. Current practice has included costumes
for the New British Galleries at the Victoria and Albert Museum and
international tailoring workshops.

Adele Keeley MA, Cert Ed, SEDA: Senior
Lecturer Costume designer and maker, Adele’s
specialism is in Computer Aided Design for costume. Adele’s
commitment to the digital platform has supported course development
in this area making it at the forefront of the discipline.
Alongside her teaching Adele continues her professional practice,
recently being awarded a sabbatical enabling her to spend a period
of time in industry.

Will Hargreaves BA (Hons), PGCE: Senior
Lecturer Has over 20 years experience as a designer
and teacher. His career began working with many leading designers,
including Mark Thompson, Ultz and Bob Crowley. His own design work
as a set and costume designer has been with many theatre companies
at regional, national and international levels. Research interests
include explorations of historical scenic techniques within a
contemporary context and Theatre as an educational tool.

Frances Tempest: Visiting Tutor
Award winning costume designer for film and television
(click here for further
details) is a visiting tutor working within the BA Costume with
Performance Design course. She specifically lectures in the
subjects of Film Studies and Design for the Screen. Frances has a
regular blog publishing interviews with a number of leading costume
designers (audio transcripts available at the AUCB library from
October), and welcomes contributions and discussion.

TECHNICAL STAFF The course is also
supported by Technician Demonstrators who provide a vast amount of
knowledge and technical support for the students and staff on the
course.

Katerina
Tichonova: BA (Hons), PGCE: Teacher Technician
Katerina trained in tailoring, costume making and designing. She
is an expert historical cutter has a particular interest in Ladies’
Victorian/mid twentieth century pattern drafting and draping on the
stand.

Alison Shaw: BA (Hons), PGCE: Technician
Demonstrator
Alison trained in Fashion and Textile Design, Costume and
Millinery. Within the course she supports work in the dye room and
is continuing her interest in millinery and working in 3D. She has
collaborated with local schools and theatre groups working with
young people interested in the arts running workshops in
accessories and millinery.

Mark Dexter: BA (Hons): Technician
Demonstrator
Mark’s background is as a costume maker with a specialism in
opera, ballet and all forms of dancewear. As a part time member of
the team he continues to work as a freelance costume maker working
within all theatre genres of costume construction.

Bunny Winter: BA (Hons): Technician
Demonstrator
Bunny’s background is in theatre, film and as a television
wardrobe supervisor with a specialism in theatrical hat
construction. She has worked freelance for the BBC and was costume
supervisor on the Oscar nominated Merry Christmas (Joyeux
Noel).
