Welcome to the University College at Bournemouth Library webpages

This purpose built library is a state of the art building, the design of which reflects both attention to detail and the use of high quality materials and landscaping. It reflects the core values of a creative community.

 

The Library includes the staff and postgraduate reading room which offers a quiet space for staff and postgraduate students to study.

Resources in the Library

Books

The Library has over 45,000 books covering a huge range of art, design and media subjects which you can search on the Library catalogue.

Books are organised using Dewey classification which is supplemented by a unique colour and symbol system called Universal Access By Design. Find out more here.

 

Journals, magazines and newspapers

The Library has over 300 journal and magazine titles. The current copy is displayed according to its subject on the shelves on the ground floor*. Each title has a number and backcopies are shelved at this number.

* Some titles are kept behind the Counter. Check the Library catalogue for details.

 

The Library keeps paper copies of the following newspapers for three months:

 

Daily Echo

Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday

Guardian

Independent

Sun

Times and Sunday Times

Telegraph

Times Higher Education

 

Online access to the Times Higher Educational Supplement is available. Please ask at the counter for details. Full text access to national and large town papers is available on the newspaper database, ProQuest.

 

DVDs, videos and CDs

The Library has a large collection of audivisual material. All material is on the Library catalogue and listed in the printed catalogues available at the Counter.

 

  • CDs: traditional and contemporary music CDs and sound effects CDs are kept behind the Counter
  • DVDs and videos: a large collection of feature films, animation, documentaries, practical as well as programmes recorded from the television.

 

The Library Online

The Library subscribes to a comprehensive collection of online resources. These allow you to search for journal, magazine and newspapers articles, e-books, images, video and sound clips. Many give you an abstract of the article while some databases give you full text so you can read or print the article in its entirety. For a complete list, see the Library Online pages.
