Pension

On joining the University College staff automatically become members of either the Teachers’ Pensions Superannuation Scheme or the Local Government Superannuation Scheme, unless they choose to opt out. 

 

Employee Support Programme (Provided by AXA ICAS Healthcare) 

A confidential 24 hour service offering free and specialist advice and information to University College staff and members of their household. Specially trained staff will put you in contact with the most appropriate specialist to deal with your call. Subjects dealt with include:

 

Relationship and marital difficulties

  • Emotional problems    
  • Medical matters
  • Legal concerns
  • Housing problems 

 

Details are issued during an employee's induction.

 

As a member you also have access to ICASxtra, a website containing information and guidance on practical and wellbeing topics.

 

Qualifications

The University College encourages and supports all staff to gain work related qualifications. In the first instance this should be discussed with your line manager at your Staff Performance Review.

 

50% Discount on Short Course Fees at AUCB

Staff wishing to take courses of their own volition will be given a 50% reduction. This discount applies to short courses and courses offered by Saturday Art School. Children of staff will receive 50% reduction on Saturday Art School courses. For further information please talk to Denise King in the Enterprise Unit.

 

Professional Fees - All Staff

The University College will contribute £150 per year for membership of professional organisations. In the first instance you should talk to your line manager about the type of membership you require. Once this has been authorised you should pay the membership fee yourself and then claim the cost back from the University College by completing a Staff Development Expenses Claim Form. This should be forwarded to Human Resources for authorisation. Payment will then made via the Finance Office.

 

Additional benefits for Maternity and Paternity

In addition to Statutory Maternity Pay the University College will pay an additional twelve weeks at half pay for employees who meet the criteria laid down in the Maternity Scheme. A period of two weeks paternity leave at full pay is available to fathers or the partner or spouse of the mother who wishes to take time off work to care for the new baby or support the mother. 

 

Subsidised Nursery Vouchers

Staff requiring childcare facilities for children up to the age of 16 are entitled to purchase up to £55 per week/£243 per month worth of Busy Bee nursery vouchers. Membership of The Arts University College Library

All staff can join the University College’s Library and have access to the wide collection books, films and music. Please speak to a member of the Library team for joining instructions.

 

Membership of Bournemouth University Library

To become an external member of Bournemouth University’s Library you need to provide them with proof of your identity including your current address, one passport size photograph and proof of your employment with the University College.

 

Well Being Classes

A variety of well being classes are held on campus over the lunch time period. Sessions are free of charge to AUCB staff and include:

  • Yogalates
  • Pilates
  • Flexibar

Places are limited so booking is essential.

 

Chiropractic Treatment

University College staff are entitled to receive heavily subsidised treatment at the Bournemouth University Talbot Campus. The AECC Satellite Clinic is lead by senior student interns under supervision of a senior clinical tutor and they treat numerous conditions including:

 

  • Sports Injuries and muscular injuries
  • Back and neck Pain
  • Joint Problems and Arthritic Conditions
  • Biomechanical Conditions
  • Headaches / Dizziness

The largest Arts Centre outside of London offers Staff Discount during the autumn and winter season:

Gym Membership at Bournemouth University

Annual membership for University College staff is approximately £90.  In addition to the gym there are squash courts, a rock wall, and a variety of classes. For further information please contact the Sports & Recreation Centre at Bournemouth University or pay them a visit.

 

Instrumental & Vocal Tuition at Bournemouth University

After Hours Club

The staff ‘After Hours Club’ meets from time to time for Pub Nights, Christmas Party etc. Look out for the fliers that are posted around the University College.
