Welcome

Who are we?

Previously the Arts Institute at Bournemouth, we have recently gained the status of University College, in recognition of our academic achievements and progress.  We remain one of the most successful and most popular higher education specialists, with an excellent national and international reputation, committed to providing the highest quality, industry-relevant creative degrees.  We now offer over 20 degrees in arts, design and media, as well as a range of short courses, a unique postgraduate programme, and bespoke services to business.

What are our aspirations?

AUCB is now a leading HEI, passionate about our specialist subjects and dedicated both to education and the creative industries which we serve.  We encourage curiosity, risk-taking and adventure in exploring subject knowledge and its boundaries.

We are committed to provide staff and students with a well resourced and nurturing environment in which to practice to the highest professional standards.  Academic staff are encouraged to continue and advance their creative practice and a strong research programme is in place, headed by Professor Rachel Worth, offering the opportunity to develop individual and community activity. Regular staff development days are also held for all staff to share developments and ideas together. For more information about our Research activity, please go to the Research and Scholarship page.

Institute for Learning (IfL)

The Institute for Learning (IfL) is the professional body for teachers, trainers, tutors, student teachers and assessors in the further education and skills sector.

Staff working in Further Education at the University College must be registered with the IfL. Membership has to be renewed each year by fulfilling the requirement for continuous professional development. Registration information can be found on their website. www.ifl.ac.uk

HEA

Staff working in Higher Education at the University College are encouraged to seek Fellowship of the HEA and engage with its work. Applications for membership should be discussed with Barbara Strange, before completion.

Business staff are also encouraged to develop their areas of professional interest and a strong programme of practical development is in place within AUCB.  Staff are also encouraged to attend development courses and conferences externally to further their knowledge and experience and to progress their careers.
